Peter denied Jesus three times.
Judas betrayed Him. Both recognized the seriousness of what they had done and experienced remorse.
Yet their stories unfolded very differently. Christians have reflected on the similarities and differences between Peter and Judas since the early church.
And while we may be tempted to look at other people and wonder whether they're more like Peter or Judas, their stories also invite us to examine ourselves. There may be places where our convictions are weak.
There may be areas where our character needs to grow or our faith needs to mature. Peter's denial shows us just how badly someone who genuinely loves Jesus can still get something wrong.
But his failure wasn't the end. We can turn toward God after we've sinned.
We can repent. We can receive His mercy.
We can allow Him to strengthen what is weak in us and continue His work in our lives. Friends, God is merciful.
No matter how badly you've gotten something wrong, don't allow shame to convince you to stay away from Him. His arms are open.
