S5E16: Faith Makes it Possible, Not Easy: Holding Hope Through Loss with Rachel Kerr Schneider
Faith makes things possible. It doesn't necessarily make them easy.
That's where Rachel Kerr Schneider starts, and it's where this conversation stays honest. Rachel grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, the daughter of a Ukrainian immigrant mother and an Air Force Academy graduate father, and learned faith in two very different churches: one heavy on fire and damnation, the other full of grace and mercy.
Years later she followed her husband John across the country as a trailing spouse, built a business leading more than 400 women, and raised two sons. Then John was diagnosed with ALS, and her faith, her marriage, and her idea of what strength looks like were all tested.
In this episode, Rachel opens up about: What it means to hold on to hope for a miracle while accepting that healing might not come on this side The messy, unglamorous reality of caregiving, and why "two things can be true at once" The counselor who told her, "You're not Jesus," and what Jesus' choice of twelve imperfect helpers teaches about receiving help Why she wore red to John's funeral, what the boys wore, and why lunch was pizza Her brother-in-law Ronald, and what it looked like to keep both conviction and relationship Why she has surrendered success and schedule, and the Paul-in-Rome lesson behind it Why a calling can quietly become an idol What Spirited Prosperity is (and isn't), and why the Holy Spirit is our "supernatural superpower" Three truths for any woman in the middle of the unthinkable: you are not alone, this will pass, and you always get to choose CONNECT WITH RACHEL KERR SCHNEIDER Website: Facebook: LinkedIn: Instagram: YouTube: @RachelKerrSchneider The Widow Chose Red , Rachel’s memoir is available on Amazon and as an audiobook.
