Libsyn description Why can't you give yourself credit for what you have overcome? When something was expected of you, it is easy to dismiss what it took.
In Season 5, Living Like You Know Your Worth, Episode 3 of Dr. Katina Talks, Dr.
Katina begins at 53, an age neither of her parents lived to see. She shares what it has meant to feel like she owes a debt for existing, for surviving, and for being successful, and why she can say she knows her worth and still live as though she is in debt.
In her counseling room, Dr. Katina holds up a mirror and shows clients not only what they went through, but what they have overcome.
In this episode, she holds that same mirror up to herself, and offers four lessons to help you hold it up to your own life, whether you have achieved a great deal or you are still working toward what you hope for: What was expected of you still took something from you You cannot see how far you have come without remembering where you started You can recognize your strength and still grieve what happened Your worth is not something you have to pay for Questions to reflect on What did it take for me to do what was expected? Where did I start, and who helped me along the way?
What am I proud of, and what still hurts? If my worth was never something I had to earn, what would I stop trying to pay for?
The episode also includes a short exercise for naming three things you usually dismiss as "just life." Affirmation I can acknowledge what it took to get here. I can grieve what I should not have had to survive.
I am learning that I do not have to repay anyone for existing, for surviving, or for succeeding. My worth was here before I achieved anything, and it will be here when I rest.
Key takeaway: Just because it was what you had to do does not mean it was easy. Give yourself credit for what it took.
