Dear Brown Girl, What if you're not angry? What if you're not irritable, difficult, moody, or “too much”?
What if you're simply overwhelmed ? In this episode of Brown Girls Need Healing Too , we're unpacking what happens when temporary emotions become familiar emotional patterns—and eventually start feeling like personality.
We talk about the nervous system, the often-cited idea that the physiological wave of an emotion can pass relatively quickly when it isn't continually reactivated, and what happens when our thoughts keep recreating the same emotional response long after the original moment has passed. Because sometimes you're not reacting only to what happened today .
You're reacting to today, yesterday, five years ago, the conversation you never got closure from, the responsibility you never put down, and every moment your body learned that it needed to stay ready. And after living there long enough, you may start saying: “That's just how I am.” But is it?
This episode challenges you to separate who you are from the emotional states you've practiced, reinforced, and carried. We'll explore the connection between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and identity—and what can happen when you stop automatically searching your past for evidence to justify how you feel in the present.
Maybe you don't need to become a different woman. Maybe you need to stop rehearsing an old version of yourself.
You're not angry. You might just be overwhelmed.
And overwhelmed is a state. It doesn't have to become your identity.
