Part Two of this week’s So Shameless gets HEAVY as the crew tackles some uncomfortable conversations about accountability, race, relationships, and the expectations Black men and women have of each other. We start with the Cornell 7 conversation and debate who was actually culpable.
Was the young woman victimized, were there multiple people responsible for what happened, or is there more nuance to the situation than people are willing to acknowledge? Then a young woman makes the statement that “Black men are hard to love.” What makes someone feel that way, and are Black men being judged fairly when it comes to relationships?
From there, another woman argues that Black women want the “white woman experience” — and that chasing the lifestyle, treatment, and relationship expectations associated with white women can cause some Black women to look down on Black men who can’t or won’t provide it. Is there any truth to that, or is the entire premise rooted in stereotypes?
And finally, Megan Thee Stallion says that her relationship with Klay Thompson and conversations about toning down her public image left her in a constant state of panic. When you’re dating someone with a provocative or highly public persona, is it fair to ask them to change?
And where’s the line between compromise and control? This one gets complicated.
