Faith, Therapy, & Healing: Letting God use Every Tool Part 2 (feat. Rachael Elmore)
What if the tools we often question therapy, medication, and science are also part of the healing God provides? In this second episode, I am joined by Rachael Elmore, a licensed clinical mental health counselor, supervisor, speaker, award-winning author and podcast host with over 20 years of experience helping people navigate the intersection of faith, emotional health, and everyday life.
Rachael shares her personal journey into the mental health field, beginning with a difficult season in college that led her to seek counseling and ultimately discover her calling to help others heal. She also opens up about her experience with postpartum depression, how it influenced her work and writing, and the role her faith played throughout her healing journey.
Rachael and I have an honest conversation about the relationship between faith, mental health, therapy, and medication. We talk about the common misconceptions within Christian communities, including the belief that mental health struggles can simply be prayed away or that seeking therapy and taking medication means someone lacks faith.
Rachael explains how she approaches the connection between the body, mind, and soul, emphasizing that while faith is an important part of healing, God can also work through practical tools such as counseling, accountability, science, and medication. Using the story of Jesus healing the blind man in John 9, she shares a powerful analogy about how these resources can be tools used as part of a person's healing journey.
