Felicia Pride on Starting Over at 35 and Creating A Different World Sequel
Before becoming a showrunner, writer, producer, director and author, Felicia Pride had to take some major chances on herself. dFelicia joins KevOnStage to talk about her Not My Best Moment, the experiences in Baltimore that pushed her to make a change and what ultimately brought her to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a writer. At 35, she was still determined to build the career she envisioned, even when the path was far from easy.
She opens up about the lessons she learned along the way, from losing a home and starting over on the West Coast to building a career that would eventually include writing on shows like Bel-Air, Grey’s Anatomy and Queen Sugar. Now, Felicia is taking on one of the biggest chapters of her career as the creator, showrunner and executive producer of Netflix’s A Different World sequel series.
She gives us a peek at what fans can expect as a new generation heads to Hillman College while honoring the legacy of the original series. A Different World premieres September 24, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
