Get Out and Vote November 3 | Damarcus Offord on Civic Engagement
Before his name appeared on a ballot, Damarcus Offord was a 14-year-old student at Lincoln Humanities and Communications Magnet High School in South Dallas, with a future still being written. More than 20 years later, he's pursuing public office.
In this episode of Making Black History Today, Liz and Porter sit down with Damarcus Offord to discuss his South Dallas upbringing, the power of mentorship, his journey into public service, and what inspired him to enter politics. For Porter, this conversation is especially personal.
She first met Damarcus when he was just 14 years old, while serving as a young Dallas police officer and volunteering as an advisor for the Dallas Police Explorer program. More than two decades later, their paths cross again, this time on the other side of the microphone.
What happens when the young people we mentor grow up to become leaders in the very communities that helped shape them? From the classrooms of Lincoln High School to the political arena, Damarcus reflects on the experiences, relationships, and decisions that helped shape his journey.
This conversation goes beyond politics. It's about community, opportunity, representation, and the importance of remembering where you come from.
In this episode, you'll hear about: Growing up in South Dallas and attending Lincoln High School The influence of the Dallas Police Explorer program Why mentorship matters long after childhood The journey from community involvement to political candidacy Leadership, representation, and public service What Making Black History Today means to Damarcus Offord Some stories remind us that history isn't always made by people we've never met.
