The NBA tips off Tuesday, and the Hoopsology Podcast is not picking a champion. Matt Thomas, Allan Muenzler, and Justin Goodrum each brought three burning questions.
The answers do not agree. Start with the newly added LeBron Sixers.
Justin calls them the Kardashian reality-TV team. Allan’s worry is simpler: five starters, plus Anfernee Simons, and everybody wants the ball.
Embiid was adamant nobody was taking a back seat. Nick Nurse might sort it out.
He might also be one of the first coaches gone. Vegas has them at 50.5 wins, the same number as the Celtics.
Justin thinks they go over in the regular season and fall apart in the playoffs, when team harmony actually matters. He also hopes it implodes, because he wants a piece of that roster in Chicago.
Then the moves that might not help. Matt zags on the Celtics and sticks with them.
Justin thinks the Wizards take a huge step back. Alan is not sold on the Heat, even after the biggest move of the offseason.
He asks whether this roster is better than the Bucks of the last two years, and he does not think so.If Wemby is not healthy, the MVP board opens. Allan pencils in Luka.
Justin, living in Denver, goes Jokić. Matt floats Cooper Flagg and a beast-mode year from Anthony Edwards now that LaMelo is bringing the ball up.
Justin’s American sleeper is Tyrese Maxey. Allan adds Alperen Sengun, who looked like a different player in the preseason. The Lakers question is the one that splits them.
Matt thinks LeBron leaving is addition by subtraction, and that Walker Kessler is the center Luka asked for. Alan and Justin think the regular season is fine and the playoffs are not.
They do not see this roster getting past OKC, San Antonio, Denver, Houston, or Minnesota. Justin would be shocked if they are the three seed.
The rest of the board is just as split. Dark horses: Pacers, Heat, Rockets.
Most to prove: Anthony Edwards, Anthony Davis, Scoot Henderson, John Moran and Damian Lillard. Surprise playoff runs: Bulls, Wizards, Hornets, Mavs, Suns, Jazz.
Scandals: Kawhi in Toronto, Pablo Torre’s next investigation, and gambling, from Wemby refusing those endorsements to the trials still coming. Hot seats: Brian Keefe, Nick Nurse, Chris Finch, JJ Redick, David Adelman, Ime Udoka, and whether Ty Lue even wants to sit through a messy Clippers half-decade.Allan’s closer is the right one.
This offseason was 52-card pickup. We are about to see who landed where.🏀 Subscribe to Hoopsology for smart NBA and WNBA conversations every week. 💬 Who is your MVP if Wemby sits, and which team takes a step back?
