Instagram Bio Voltaire’s GhostVoltaire’s Ghost is a gothic rock trio from Western Colorado with a penchant for love, death, and the sounds in between. Comprised of Ruby Juhl on vocals, Joshua Eggstaff on drums, and Magnus on guitars and production, the band has been creating music together since 2023, touring throughout California, Texas, and Colorado and bringing their distinctive sound to the stages of renowned venues across the region.Following the success of their 2025 record Death Becomes You, Voltaire’s Ghost earned a Semi Finalist placement in America’s Next Top Hitmaker, sponsored by Rolling Stone, competing against more than 70,000 contestants.
The recognition helped propel a run of singles that ultimately led to the band’s 13 track album Black Petals Fallen.Recorded in Colorado and mixed in Los Angeles, Black Petals Fallen was engineered by Grammy nominated Joe Ayoub. The album captures the band’s evolving sound while exploring its recurring themes of love, loss, darkness, and mortality.
Its fourth single, “‘Till The Break of Day,” takes a softer and more romantic turn, offering a bittersweet slow dance that steps outside the album’s predominantly gothic atmosphere. The song tells the story of two people destined to share only one night together, capturing the beauty and sadness of a love that cannot last. “‘Till The Break of Day” continues Voltaire’s Ghost’s fascination with the intersection of love and death, but approaches those themes with warmth and vulnerability. The song began years ago as a rough demo written by Magnus. When Ruby and Josh discovered the original recording, they immediately connected with its emotional potential.
What started as a simple sketch gradually became a fully realized collaboration, with Ruby’s expressive vocals and Josh’s instinctive drumming transforming the original idea into something much more expansive.Magnus describes the evolution simply: “It went from a rough sketch to a beautiful painting.”Ruby preserved the original lyrics while bringing her own phrasing and emotional interpretation to the song. Josh found an immediate connection with the arrangement, recognizing an opening for drums that allowed him to shape the track naturally. “This one was easy to jump into and start playing,” he says. “It captured me right away.
It’s my favorite song on the album, even though it’s a softer song.”The band describes “‘Till The Break of Day” as a song that has gradually become “more sweet than bitter.” At its heart, the track is about recognizing the rare people who feel like home from the moment we meet them and holding on to those connections, even when circumstances make them impossible to keep. It explores the timeless question of whether it is better to experience love and lose it or never experience it at all.“‘Till The Break of Day” is scheduled for release on August 14, while Black Petals Fallen is available for digital purchase on Bandcamp.
A vinyl pre order is also available through the band’s website. Become a supporter of this podcast: .
