Why your “Smart” decisions may not be so smart after all
You can make the smartest-looking decision in the room—and still build a life you do not want. I used to skip breakfast before a buffet because I thought being hungrier would help me eat more.
Somehow, the plan always backfired. And the more I thought about it, the more I realised we do the same thing everywhere: we optimise one part of life so aggressively that we make the whole outcome worse.
We want a job so desperately that we stop sounding like ourselves in the interview. We push a sale so hard that the customer stops trusting us.
We maximise our salary and wake up years later doing work we cannot stand. Businesses cut costs until customers leave—or protect quarterly earnings until innovation disappears.
In this episode, I explore why intelligent people still make bad decisions, how trying too hard can change the outcome, and the hidden trade-offs behind every choice we make. Because you cannot maximise money, health, family, career, happiness, and free time all at once.
Every time you optimise one thing, you are choosing not to optimise something else. And your future self will inherit the consequences.
So the real question is not whether you are making trade-offs. It is whether you are making them intentionally—or accidentally.
What are you optimising for right now, and what might it be costing you? Tell me in the comments, then share this episode with someone making an important decision about their future.
